FLOWERS IN THE LIMELIGHT

101.5cm x 101.5cm

Acrylic & Oil Pastel on Canvas

Framed in Hand-Stained Tasmanian Oak

Painted in Australian artist Rikki Day's Northern Rivers Studio.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE WORK:

Have you ever noticed that flowers have no reluctancy to bloom?

They don't hesitate or compare themselves to the flowers beside them. They simply stretch towards the light when it is their time and Happily bask in the limelight - the sunlight. The text hidden within this piece says "what a beautiful time to grow"

"Flowers in the Limelight" is a celebration of self-expression and a reminder that we too are allowed to take up space, be seen and share our gifts with the world without apology.

Created as part of my latest collection exploring humanity, presence and the joy of real life, this piece honours the courage required to show up fully as ourselves and trust that we are enough.

Painted with expressive brushwork, layered colour and visible hand-made marks, the piece embraces the beauty of the hand. I wanted the work to feel alive, joyful and unmistakably human — carrying a sense of warmth and presence into the home it inhabits.

LIVING WITH THE WORK

At 101.5cm x 101.5cm, Flowers in the Limelight delivers impact while maintaining a sense of softness and ease.

Its bold floral form creates a focal point within a room while the earthy tones allow the piece to integrate beautifully into a wide variety of interior styles. A pinch of maximalism adds a fun yet elevated essence to the work and the poppy colours such as the lime and royal blues in the piece add an eclectic flare to the palette. A balance of fun loving and hard working.

FRAMING & PRESENTATION

The frame is not an afterthought — it is an extension of the artwork itself.

Unable to find a commercial framing finish that I felt truly complemented the tones within this collection, I sourced a beautiful Japanese brown stain and hand-finished each Tasmanian Oak frame in my studio. The deep brown finish was carefully chosen to elevate the artwork while maintaining a sense of warmth and timelessness.

Each frame carries subtle variations from the hand-finishing process, adding another layer of individuality to an already one-of-a-kind piece.
