PASTA IN THE GARDEN
101.5cm x 101.5cm
Acrylic & Oil Pastel on Canvas
Framed in Hand-Stained Tasmanian Oak
Painted in Australian artist Rikki Day's Northern Rivers Studio.
THE MEANING BEHIND THE WORK:
A striped tablecloth. Fresh-cut gardenias. A favourite blue jug. Pasta shared with a friend beneath the afternoon sun.
"Pasta in the Garden" is a celebration of the simple rituals that make life beautiful. The meals that stretch into conversations. The afternoons that become evenings and the friendships that quietly shape our lives.
Created as part of my latest collection exploring humanity, presence and the joy of real life, this piece is a reminder that happiness is often found not in extraordinary moments but in ordinary ones fully appreciated.
Painted with expressive brushwork, layered colour and visible hand-made marks, the piece embraces the beauty of the hand. I wanted the work to feel alive, joyful and unmistakably human — carrying a sense of warmth and presence into the home it inhabits.
LIVING WITH THE WORK
At 101.5cm x 101.5cm, Pasta in the Garden brings warmth, nostalgia and effortless charm into a space. A modern almost abstracted take on a still life classic.
A piece that feels like home, for settling in and revealing small details and memories over time.
FRAMING & PRESENTATION
The frame is not an afterthought — it is an extension of the artwork itself.
Unable to find a commercial framing finish that I felt truly complemented the tones within this collection, I sourced a beautiful Japanese brown stain and hand-finished each Tasmanian Oak frame in my studio. The deep brown finish was carefully chosen to elevate the artwork while maintaining a sense of warmth and timelessness.
Each frame carries subtle variations from the hand-finishing process, adding another layer of individuality to an already one-of-a-kind piece.
